[series]: Mama
[character]: Victoria DeSange
[character history / background]: We first meet Victoria at three years old. She's at home with her sister who is only about a year old and her father who is suffering from a very problematic mental deterioration. He's just shot his wife and now plans to take his kids away. This ends in him driving their car off a cliff after slipping on a very icy stretch of mountain highway.
The trio survive the crash and make their way through the woods, eventually finding their way to a seemingly abandoned cabin.
It's not, as they'll soon learn, uninhabited. When Victoria's father goes to kill his eldest child, his life is ended by the entity known as Mama. Mama 'adopts' Victoria and her sister Lilly and cares for the girls in the middle of nowhere.
Back home, her uncle Luke (an illustrator of limited funds) and his girlfriend, Annabel, a rock musician, start a search for the girls that lasts five years.
When the girls are found, they're dirty, underfed and quite feral in behavior.
After being taken to a nearby hospital where the girls are evaluated, cleaned up and taken care of, it's the presence of Luke (her fathers twin) and a pair of glasses that restores most of Victoria's more human memories. The girls are taken in by Luke and Annabel.
This is about when the jealous Mama makes a reappearance. At first, it's harmless things like singing to the girls and playing with them. But as affection grows between Victoria and her aunt and uncle, Mama's visits become more violent. Uncle Luke is shoved down the steps and the injuries result in a coma and Annabel is plagued by nightmares.
Eventually, Mama murders the girls psychiatrist and possesses their great aunt, taking the girls back to the cabin.
Annabel leaves to find the girls, Luke wakes up and leaves the hospital and runs into Annabel and the pair discover Mama on top of a cliff, set to jump off with the girls into the lake below. Mama wants a child to die with since her first attempt ended with her child getting caught on a branch on the way down and she almost claims both girls, if it weren't for Annabel grabbing hold of Victoria's hand. Lilly couldn't be rescued, however, and the movie ends with Annabel watching her sister turn into butterflies after she and Mama crashed into a branch.
This is the point that Victoria will arrive in the City.
[character abilities]: None
[character personality]:
Victoria is a very odd child. Where most kids are happy and bubbly and active, she's not. She does not like large groups of people and this isn't because she's shy. This is due to being raised in seclusion. Literally no human contact save for her sister. She is a slightly feral child in that she observes everything in a very animalistic way. Every detail is paid attention to, every gesture and movement from people watched closely.
Now, this doesn't mean she's going to attack everyone on sight. On the contrary. Victoria understands that she's off. She wants to be normal. She remembers life before Mama and this works in her favor in that she won't be spooked by anything others would consider normal. She's not a very physically affectionate child. You really have to be someone important for her to hug you and even then, she probably won't. Mama tended to be very violent towards anyone that interacted with the kids, even going so far as to murder their doctor, shove their uncle down the steps and kill their great aunt after possessing her and using her to get the girls back.
So for Victoria, physical affection is hard because it ends badly for the other people. Even with Mama gone, she's still hesitant.
She is an incredibly quiet child. This is in no small part to how she was raised. Her vocabulary isn't limited, but it's not where it should be for someone her age. She uses few words when she speaks, making sure to get her point across quickly.
She's not a very expressive child, either. Her facial expressions tend to remain neutral. It is incredibly rare seeing her smile. She more readily displays other emotions like anger, worry, hurt but even those are toned down.
Arriving in this setting. Victoria's emotions would move from one to the other very quickly.
She'd be apathetic, part of her so used to weird things happening. She'd be unsettled because part of her knows this is Not Normal. She'd be concerned that maybe she did in fact fall off the cliff with Mama and Lilly and this was part of dying. She'd also be very curious about the setting and want to explore in the hopes that her sister was there. If she did fall off the cliff like she's assuming, this makes sense to her that Lilly would be there, too.
[point in timeline you're picking your character from]:
The end of the film after Lilly dies.
[journal post]:
[The face peering out of the screen is confused and just a little bit wary, as if the device she's looking at may very well bite her. It's also likely, again based on the young girls expression, that she may very well bite back.
She's not terribly new, per se. She's been here for a few days and has spent most of her time skulking around, searching hard for something and hiding from everyone that came too close.
She's also a bit dirty. Her hair's tangled with the withered, faded remnants of a wreath of flowers and there's smudges on her face. Possibly even tear tracks that are a little fresher than she'll care to admit.
There's a cautious look in her eyes, the kind of look seen only on a wild animal that isn't sure if it's been cornered or not.
When she speaks, her sentences are short. There's no young child babble from her.
New girl has a question. Listen up.]
My sister is...['Dead' is the word that goes in the pause, but she opts for something else with a bit of hope in her voice.] missing. She's six and she was wearing a white dress. Her face is dirty and her name is Lilly.
[Another pause and a moment where she shakes her head just a bit, as if she feels stupid for asking.]
If you see her, tell her Victoria's looking for her and to stay.
[Not 'wait.' The word 'stay' is important. She knows how to speak to her sister. Stay is a word Lilly knows.
And then the device just shuts off on Victoria's end. She's only been on a few minutes and she's already had enough. For now, it's time to resume her search for Lilly.]
[third person / log sample]:
She wants to sleep. She should sleep, she should close her eyes and let the rumble of the van driving her and her aunt and uncle away from the cliff lull her into sleep but that feels impossible. Lilly was gone and Victoria needed her. They hadn't been separated in years and then Mama took her off the cliff. Mama got what she wanted, a child to die with.
And it left Victoria alone and hurting. She was supposed to protect Lilly and she couldn't and now, Lilly and Mama were butterflies and moths, flying far and away from her. Without her.
"Hey, kiddo," Annabel says, an arm sliding around Victoria's shoulders. Victoria tenses out of habit before looking at Annabel, her expression flat and masking her desperate need to cry again. The look Annabel gives her instantly calls her on her bullshit and Victoria leans against the older woman, a shaky sigh escaping. They're both bruised, hurting everywhere and feeling the weight of losing Lilly.
"We're gonna be home soon, okay?" Uncle Luke says from the drivers seat.
"Okay," Victoria replies softly, nodding. Back to her and Lilly's room. Back to Handsome, the dog.
It feels more like back to nothing. Mama took everything from her. First her father. Now Lilly. What was she going to do?
Annabel starts trying to detangle her hair from the flowers Mama put in it, fingers careful and touch gentle. Victoria finds this relaxing and strange and new. And it's just the right amount of comforting that she needs. She relaxes into it, eyes drifting closed for a moment and it's just before she falls asleep that she figures out what to do next.
Survive. Just like she always had.

Setting: The events of Victoria's life take place in modern day America. It really seems average at first. People go about their lives as they do nowadays. There's a financial crisis that affects her father enough to kill his business partner and wife, thereby prompting him to take Victoria and Lilly into the woods to quite possibly kill them, too.
It's at this point that a difference between the modern world we know and Victoria's world are different. Her father is killed by Mama, an angry ghost who wants her own child back and ends up 'adopting' Victoria and Lilly.
The girls are raised for five years in seclusion by this entity. Mama seems to be the only supernatural element of this setting. Other than that, it's an unremarkable world.

Appearance:
Abilities: She has none.
Inventory: She'll be coming empty-handed. The only things she'll own will be the clothes on her back (a white dress, slightly dirty and old fashioned), a flower crown on her head and a broken pair of glasses in her hand.
Suite: WA-2D She would benefit highly from being in the Water Sector. She needs the calm environment because that's what she remembers from her world. There wasn't a lot going on, save for the horrors of Mama and I think a place where people tend to be calm minded will help her adapt a lot better than a place with constant activity and noise. She'll explore other sectors eventually, but with the Water Sector being the most peaceful, it's where she'll spend most of her time.

She'd also be very curious about the setting and want to explore in the hopes that her sister was there. If she did fall off the cliff like she's assuming, this makes sense to her that Lilly would be there, too.
Appearance:
Abilities: She has none.
Inventory: She'll be coming empty-handed. The only things she'll own will be the clothes on her back (a white dress, slightly dirty and old fashioned), a flower crown on her head and a broken pair of glasses in her hand.

Character Information:
Name: Victoria DeSange
Canon: Mama
Canon Point: End of film, just after Lilly dies and turns into a butterfly
Age: 8
Reference: Mama
Personality: Victoria is a very odd child.
